Most of the world's coffee is Robusta, produced on large scale, chemically treated farms. Second only to tobacco, these coffee crops are sprayed with more chemicals than any other consumable product. Stripped of the forests, these farmlands produce bountiful crops providing wealth for off-shore companies. The land suffers, the wild-life suffers, and, most of all, the people suffer.

Silaacoffee organic Arabica coffee is farmed largely by private land owners who contract with us to produce an organic harvest. Crops are planted at altitudes above 1000 meters among existing shade trees, (or shade trees are planted along with new crops where forest has previously been cleared.) These factors bring on a slow ripening fruit that ensures a full flavored, rich aromatic coffee.

Composting, mulching and other sustainable land-care practices are promoted amongst our farmers. We provide training programs and materials to educate hill tribe farmers in the best methods to ensure their farms remain viable and the soils rich for generations to come.

Locally grown product for pest control is utilized on our coffee. Farmers are educated and provided with the means to harness their environment allowing them to effectively and cheaply control pests and diseases the attack coffee. Farming coffee among other crops, used for shade, naturally reduces the instances of pests and diseases that are normally found when coffee is farmed in a mono-crop situation.
